Frequently Asked Questions

The In-Ground Niche is our patented, weatherproof memorial designed to safeguard your loved one’s ashes on your personal property, offering a private alternative to cemetery and church placements or urn burials. Made from durable materials with a water and dust-tight gasket, it accommodates multiple sets of cremated remains, including animals, and is fully customizable to honor your loved one in a way that is as unique as they were. Easy to install and maintain, it provides families with a lasting, elegant and beautiful space to honor their loved ones in the comfort of home without any restrictions.

Every component is proudly sourced, made, and assembled in the United States of America!

In most US states it is legal to bury your pet in your backyard, however you should always consult with your city, county, and state officials.

Yes, in most areas, it is legal to place cremated remains on your property, as they are considered sterile and pose no health risks.

While the In-Ground Niche is set in a hole in the earth, it is not considered a burial because it securely houses cremated remains and mementos in a water and dust-tight, protective chamber that you have consistent access to rather than directly burying the ashes in the soil. This design allows for long-term preservation and memorialization - like a time capsule.

While the small, Single – Deep Niche could easily be retrieved due to its smaller size, the larger models are more difficult. To remedy this, simply take your memorialized lid, security rosettes, and your loved one’s perfectly preserved ashes with you and purchase a new niche body from us (sold separately) and install it at your next property.

No, the In-Ground Niche is designed to accommodate various types of cremation urns, bags, or containers, giving you the freedom of choosing what best honors your loved one. Its spacious design allows for multiple sets of cremated remains, depending on the type, size, and shape of container used. One of the most unique containers we’ve seen – a Ski Boot!!

The urn capacity of the In-Ground Niche depends on the size and model you choose.
Our guidelines are as follows:

  • Small Single Deep Niche: Holds up to 4 sets of cremated remains* – traditionally holds 1 urn.
  • Large Single Deep Niche: Holds up to 8 sets of cremated remains*– traditionally holds 4 urns.
  • Large Double Deep Niche: Holds up to 18 sets of cremated remains* with its two-tiered chamber design – traditionally holds 7 urns.

*The exact number of cremated remains that the In-Ground Niche can hold depends on the urn, bag, or container used. The most we have seen placed was 18 (in the Large Double-Deep) where the family used bags instead of hard containers.

At this time through Forever at Home, no. However, we do offer installment payment options through Shop and PayPal, allowing you to spread out the cost of your purchase under their terms. We will soon be introducing a Pay-Over-Time package through Forever at Home to help families prepare in advance for their memorial needs.

It all depends on how much space you have left on your lid. If you need to add more names after engraving your lid, you can send the lid back to us for engraving in our shop (at an additional cost) or you can take the lid to your local monument shop for sandblasting or roto/laser engraving. This flexibility ensures you can continue to personalize your memorial as needed. If you are out of space, you will need to purchase a new lid from us, and we can engrave it before shipping it back to you.

Only those with the special security bit—provided by us—can open the In-Ground Niche. This bit is designed specifically for the tamper-proof screws that secure the bronze rosettes to the granite lid and cannot be purchased at your standard hardware store, ensuring the protection and security of your loved one's remains and mementos.

You can purchase the In-Ground Niche directly from our website at www.foreverathome.com or through one of our distributors. For any questions, assistance, or custom orders, please contact our Sales Manager, Leandra Whiting, at [email protected] or call (303) 483-8125. We look forward to helping you honor your loved ones at home, where they belong!

It depends on which part of the country you are in and the type of service you choose.

Every unit comes with the following:

  • Niche Body – Made from durable, weather-resistant polyethylene for long-term protection.
  • Granite Lid – A durable and fully customizable memorial cover currently available in your choice of 4 colors – white, black, gray, and brown.
  • Protective Rubber Weather Gasket – Making it water and dust-tight, ensuring your loved one's remains and mementos are protected regardless of weather conditions.
  • 2 Solid Bronze Security Rosettes – Decorative and functional fasteners that secure the lid in place (your choice of round or square rosettes – rosette color dependent on granite selection).
  • 2 Tamper-Proof Stainless-Steel Screws – Ensuring your In-Ground Niche remains secure.
  • 1 Security Bit Tool – A unique tool required to unscrew the tamper-proof screws (not available in standard hardware stores).
  • 3 or 5 Steel Anchoring Rods (depending on In-Ground Niche size) to provide stability as well as to prevent shifting and heaving over time.
  • Chamber Divider – (only included with the Large Double Deep model) – Made of clear acrylic, allowing for organized two-tiered placement of cremated remains containers.

With these components, your In-Ground Niche is designed for security, durability, and personalization, providing a lasting and proper tribute to your loved ones.

We use polyethylene because it is a durable, non-leaching, and long-lasting material that provides superior protection for cremated remains. Unlike concrete, wood, or metal, polyethylene is weatherproof, moisture-resistant, and does not crack, rot, or degrade over time, ensuring your In-Ground Niche will last for life. It is also lightweight yet strong, making installation easier while maintaining excellent structural integrity.

While yes, polyethylene is a type of plastic, it has eco-friendly advantages when used in long-term applications like our In-Ground Niche. It helps reduce land use impact, eliminates the need for concrete or steel vaults that have a high carbon footprint, and it is recyclable at the end of its lifecycle. Most importantly, polyethylene is non-toxic and does not leach harmful chemicals into the soil, making it a safe and responsible choice. By using this material, we provide a protective, lasting, and environmentally conscious alternative for families who want to create a meaningful at-home memorial.
